Dr. Jack Salmon began his career working at a printing company that made copies for a hospital at the beginning of the Medicare and Medicaid debates. Since the copy machines worked slowly back then, he read nearly all the information. Later on, he had wonderful mentors that prepared him for his doctoral studies in medical care organization and administration at Cornell. Today, Dr. Salmon has garnered 41 years of experience and is an invaluable asset to UIC School of Public Health.

Being a child of the 60s and influenced by its social movements, his values in health policy were shaped to advocate for equity in health care and social justice. Dr. Salmon has been very involved in many areas of health care and enjoys the work he does. He has achieved great success throughout his illustrious career and continues to make contributions to the field. The highlight of his administrative career occurred early on in his twenties, when he was given the opportunity to pull together the five Philadelphia medical schools to secure NIH funding for an Arthritis Control Program across Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. A set of fine professors and their teams traveled to 17 arthritis demonstration clinics organized in a regionalized referral system to extend and upgrade rheumatological care. CME programs for health care teams, along with screening and patient/family education projects accompanied the overall effort.

Aside from his work at the school, Dr. Salmon has written books on corporatization of medicine and pharmacy, complementary and alternative medicine, and local public health care reorganization, along with nearly 200 other citations. He has also spoken at conferences and given countless presentations.

Dr. Salmon received many awards and honors for his exceptional work. He earned the Healthcare Marketing Track and Medicare and Medicaid Track Award and numerous Best Paper Awards from the Business and Health Administration Association, Individual Contribution Award and Award of Excellence from the Academy for Managed Care Pharmacy, and Outstanding Leadership Award for Co-Chairing the United Way of Chicago's Health/Disability Needs Assessment Committee.

Dr. Salmon earned a Ph.D. in medical care organization and administration and a Master of Science in health services and administration at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management, and a Bachelor of Science in business administration at the College of Business and Administration at Drexel University. To keep abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Salmon is involved with various organizations.
